Milton Shefter is the 2013 recipient of The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers Archival Technology Medal. Shefter is honored in recognition of his long-standing and continued leadership contributions to the motion picture and television industry in defining practices for the storage and archive of the industry’s film legacy and digital media content. Shefter is also co-author and co-editor of The Digital Dilemma, a book that articulates the film industry’s archival challenges in the digital era. He is also one of the earliest and most consistent expert voices on image and sound preservation. Shefter, a graduate of the Maxwell School in American Studies, continues to serve on the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Science and Technology Council.
