“The Maxwell Community Service Project”

A Celebration of 30 Years of Community Service

In recognition of the 90th anniversary of the Maxwell School, a series of posters highlighting the community service activities of Maxwell students will be displayed throughout the first floor of the Maxwell Foyer.  These posters will highlight both undergraduate and graduate projects which have generated millions of dollars in vital services to local governments and nonprofits in Onondaga County and New York State.  The Public Affairs Program and the Public Administration and International Affairs Program are sponsoring this project and activities from other departments are included as well.   Stop by and take a look at some of the exciting projects and programs that Maxwell has to offer.  Posters will be up from October 7 – October 17.

Public Affairs

The undergraduate Policy Studies Major is offered by the Public Affairs Department at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs (the #1 rated public affairs school in the USA) and the College of Arts and Sciences.

The major is completed through coursework from several academic departments. You will acquire skills in report writing, problem-solving, information gathering, computer applications, quantitative analysis, and working in teams as you study major public policy issues. Not only is the program both hands-on and interdisciplinary, but it also offers a wide variety of electives to choose from.

Public Administration

Maxwell is home to the nation’s number-one Master’s of Public Administration degree (according to U.S.News & World Report), providing a skills-based education that is concentrated and broadly applicable — for leaders within not only the public sector, but anywhere leadership is essential.

In the same department, Maxwell offers an ambitiously interdisciplinary MA in International Relations, combining scholarly coursework with global internships and selected skills instruction. This program was recently ranked top-15 by Foreign Affairs.

And alongside those is an array of powerful joint degrees, including Public Diplomacy, the Master’s of Public Health, and the two-continent Atlantis Program, among others.

Maxwell graduates are famously inventive and savvy. Employers trust them to possess not just the skills of leadership but that special combination of big-picture thinking and connect-the-dots pragmatism that makes PAIA alumni especially valuable.
