Thomas Gamble has announced plans to retire from the presidency of Mercyhurst University, located in Erie, Pennsylvania. Gamble said he will return to teaching, research, and writing after his contract ends on May 31, 2015. During his presidency, Gamble established the Booker T. Washington center to bring higher education opportunities to underrepresented groups, and the school’s first doctoral program in archaeology. Gamble was a professor of criminal justice and psychology before serving as president for the past eight years. Gamble will have served Mercyhurst for thirty years when his presidency ends in May.
