Bruce Dearstyne ’74 PhD (Hist) wins 2016 American Association for State and Local History Award of Merit

Bruce Dearstyne was recently selected as a recipient of an award of merit for his book “The Spirit of New York: Defining Events in the Empire State’s History,” by the American Association for State and Local History, a not-for-profit organization which works to preserve and promote history. The book explores 16 events within New York State history that have impacted the state and the country as a whole. In a press release by the AASLH, they describe Dearstyne’s book as: “Dearstyne puts the fascinating people who made history at the center of the story…This book makes history come alive. The momentous events illustrate the ‘spirit’ of New York—the elusive traits that make New York State unique and a leader among the fifty states—and the complexity of its history.” Dearstyne is a professor and author, previously publishing “Leading the Historical Enterprise: Strategic Creativity, Planning, and Advocacy for the Digital Age.” To learn more about “The Spirit of New York,” click here:
